Using Primroses Can be One of the Best Garden Decor Ideas
Posted by GuestPoster in Hobbies, Home and Furnishings on December 10th, 2009
Bright and cheerful, primrose plants are available in a wide range of colors. If you are looking for the best garden decor ideas I would suggest you add a section in your outdoor area designated to this attractive flower as they are really delightful and eye-catching. They also grow well indoors or in your patio area.
Primroses are early spring-blooming plants and usually quite small. During flowering the leaves hardly grow. Soon after the flowering finishes, they begin to make healthy new growth. The species Vulgaris is the most delicate of the cultivated Primula species. Its leaves are coarsely rippled and they decrease in width the nearer the yare to the central rosette. The whole plant is very attractive and the flower is simply constructed.
You will find hybrid primroses of every imaginable color combination. This is the result of work done by professional plant breeders. Different varieties have similar leaf rosettes, but very greatly in stem length, color and the way the flowers are held. The spring flowers of these have a fresh fragrance. The yellow-colored varieties are particularly fragrant. Provided that they are in a cool light position they will thrive. They are ideal for north-facing windows or for outdoor areas. Colored wicker baskets, china pot holders, copper troughs – just about every container you could think of would suite the primrose. Group two or three together in a deep wicker basket and conceal their individual pots with a moss blanket.
Buy plants from the florist, market or garden center but make sure you choose the ones with lots of buds. If you re-pot them water regularly once the plants are well-established. Spring is the time for the plant to blossom fully. Nip out flower stalks as the flowers fade. When flowering has ceased, plant them in a different area if you want to have something more vibrant in the designated area or just move them to the patio. Choose a shady or semi-shady place.
They are really easy to care during the spring and early summer. They may need frost protection during the fall and winter. Water primroses moderately during the spring as they flower, once or twice a week, making sure that they never dry out completely. When outdoors and during the summer, water more generously, keeping permanently moist.
Different Types of Fish Hooks
Posted by whaleadmin in Hobbies on November 24th, 2009
The fish hook is a small fishing accessory but what this lacks in size is well-compensated by its all-important role in your next fishing expedition. It is through the hook that the fish can be caught, so make sure that you get to know the different types of hooks that are available now in the market.
The list of hooks that you can select from is a long list and include the bait holder, the worm, the double hook, the treble hook, the siwash hook and a few more. A
ll these hooks have the same purpose and that is to catch fish. The difference will often lie in the design and the construction of the hook.
One type of hook is your worm hook. This is the choice of most bass fishermen since this fish hook is known for its durable built. Bass are heavy fighters, and this type of hook assumes the job with ease.
The double hook is another example of hook that you can select and this is great when used in a trailer-hook set-up and when used on thick bodied plastic baits.
If you are after tough and large fishes, then a siwash hook should be chosen. This resembles the basic hook and constructed to be extremely hard. This should be chosen if your next trip will be saltwater fishing and this is often used for commercial use.
The Aberdeen hooks on the other hand is best for baiting with minnows and since its construction is light, then its use will not damage the bait.
All the different types of fish hooks come in different metal finishes. With this simple guide, you get to choose what fish hook suits your next fishing activity.
Learning to foot brake on a longboard
Posted by whaleadmin in Hobbies on November 21st, 2009
Stopping is essential for safe longboarding. As typically longboarding takes place on public roads and walkways there are vehicles and pedestrians as well as many other potential dangers. Controlling your speed in order to deal with these dangers and avoid them, or stopping completely requires the rider to be confident in his abilities.
When first starting out I recommend finding a mellow hill, and practising rolling and immediately lowering your rear foot to the ground. Remember to make sure your heel touches the ground first and your weight remains on the front foot. Keeping your knees bent helps maintain your balance. After braking almost to a stop lift your foot back onto the board, gain some speed again then repeat.
Once you have practised this over and over and feel confident, then it is time to try at higher speeds. Braking is easy when you are going slow, but balancing on one foot when you are going quickly is much harder.
If you are finding you are wearing your shoes down a lot then you will be needing a source of cheap skate shoes.
Bridge suit strength and No trumps
Posted by whaleadmin in Education, Entertainment, Hobbies on October 16th, 2009
The bridge game uses the 4 suits which all have different ranking strengths when trumps are nominated or bid, in a 52 card deck of playing cards. The lowest trump suit is Clubs and a bid at the same level in one of the other suits will outrank clubs. The two bridge teams of two playing partners each control the bidding. With Clubs being the lowest, the other suits bid upwards are Diamonds, Hearts and Spades in that order. The scoring reflects the suit strength with the major suit tricks being more valuable than the minor suit ones. The major suits are Hearts and Spades with the minor suits represented by Clubs and Diamonds.
When no suit can be agreed or declared the players may opt to bid and play the hand in No-Trumps and this confers equality again to all the suits. No-Trump play is more difficult as you need to protect your honor cards (court cards) in each of the 4 suits. In No-Trumps you also lose out on the ability to ‘ruff’ out high value opponent cards with a ‘trump’ when you are void in the particular suit. You must have control of all 4 suits to be successful.

As the Dark Reign: The List storyline begins to really hit it’s stride, we find that Norman Osborn, the current head of the organization known as H.A.M.M.E.R. (formerly called S.H.I.E.L.D) has made a list of Marvel heroes that he wants to remove from the picture and after taking down Hawkeye in Marvel Dark Reign The List – Avengers, Osborn has and targeted Matt Murdock in the new 48 page One-Shot issue Dark Reign: The List – Daredevil, written by new regular series writer Andy Diggle, who takes over the path that was laid out by long-time Daredevil writers Brian Michael Bendis and Ed Brubaker. This One-Shot issue takes over right after the events of Daredevil #500 as Matt Murdock agrees to accept leadership of the underground group known as The Hand.
Diggle has been teamed with hot, upcoming artist Billy Tan, and there is plenty of action to see here as Daredevil’s old nemesis Bullseye comes to Hell’s Kitchen searching for Daredevil, making for one of the most highly anticipated confontations in the Marvel Dark Reign: The List storyline so far.

How To Use A Garden Tractor Trailer
Posted by whaleadmin in Hobbies, The Great Outdoors on September 12th, 2009
Whether you ride a John Deere or a Yamaha lawn tractor, you have probably found yourself in a situation where you needed something or somewhere to put weeds, dirt or some other garden waste in order to transport it to somewhere else. The producers of these garden tractors have realized this and have created a small trailer or attachment that you can use for just that purpose.
These trailers are not that expensive and they can be a huge help if you need to move something heavy. They do have their limitations though as they will not be able to transport large amounts of rocks or dirt as it will normally only be able to carry about 30% of the weight of the tractor. So you’ll either need a heavy tractor or take a few extra trips.
What Are Legitimate Sweepstakes?
Posted by whaleadmin in Entertainment, Hobbies on September 11th, 2009
What are sweepstakes, and should I be signing up for these offers? Are they legitimate? There are a lot of sweepstakes out there that are going to ask you to sign up for something, to get your name on a list. Every now and then though, there are actually ones that work out, and you end up getting the prizes they listed. Knowing which sweepstakes to enter for the best chance to get the prize is going to be the key to keeping your mailbox from loading up with junk offers. The bad stakes offers are going to end up selling your name over and over again, in order to make their own money, never really worried about you getting the prize. There are others though, like the Publishers Clearing House, that make a strong profit by actually giving out the prizes.
Shopping for Makita LXT Cordless Power Tools
Posted by whaleadmin in Hobbies, Home and Furnishings, The Great Outdoors on September 10th, 2009
I have been looking to replace my current cordless tools with a kit that uses the new lithium ion batteries. There are several manufacturers that are now offering lithium ion battery cordless power tools including Hitachi, Makita, and Ryobi. But, my current cordless tools are all Makita and I was thinking that I would probably replace these other Makita tools. The current cordless tools were also bought one at a time rather than in a kit. A kit can be much less expensive especially when you can find them on sale at one of the big box hardware stores. I really like the look of the Makita LXT lithium ion powered tools. The drill, by far the most used tool in the kit, fits nicely in the hand and is quite a bit lighter than my older drill. In fact all the tools are lighter and have far longer battery life than the previous NiCad battery models.
The Halberd is the Original Swiss Army Knife
Posted by whaleadmin in Hobbies, Sports and Games on September 4th, 2009
Did you know that the halberd, that gigantic pole-arm axe wielded by Knights in shiny armor, is the original swiss army knife? It may not be as versatile (or as pocket-sized) as the current swiss army knife but the halberd in it’s prime was definitely used for multiple purposes. Before it became the weapon of choice for the Swiss Royal Guard it was used for chopping wood, prying open plate armor, smashing open plate armor, stabbing knights in the neck, and chopping people to pieces.
Lately the halberd has become more of a decorative weapon. The axe head has gotten smaller and is usually adorned with fancy golden etchings and stuff like that. In it’s prime it was a fantasticly powerful weapon. The length would keep the opponent at bay and the blade would deliver striking blows. Today it is one of those martial arts weapons that gets little publicity but is nobler for it.
