In the ancient art of fishing, a fisherman’s tackle is his most prized possession. An angler’s tackle is everything, it’s all the items he needs to do the sport he loves. But understanding how to properly use and care for this all important commodity can be even more valuable than the fishing tackle itself. Even the most expensive sport fishing tackle will break down or not work properly in inexperienced, careless, or lazy hands.

Caring for your sport fishing tackle starts with the rod and reel. The rod and reel should always be kept indoors when not in use. Exposure to the elements can destroy even large construction equipment, to say nothing of delicate reel parts. All fishing line should be kept out of heat and sun, as both will corrode and destroy fishing line. Next comes the tackle box and all the tackle inside. Make sure the inside of your tackle box remains dry. Wet tackle placed back in a tackle box can humidify the air inside, possibly rusting other tackle!
