Why You Should Continue to Take Cherries for Gout

Cherries for Gout

Cherries for Gout

One of the biggest risk factors for gout is obesity.  Unfortunately, I would fall into that category.  I have been working on this problem, slowly but surely, and I have seen results.  However, this time around, I became lazy in taking my cherry juice.  This almost turned into a costly mistake.

A few days into my newest attempt at losing weight, I noticed my ankle and foot started getting sore.  Frankly, this is one of the reasons I dread losing weight.  If you lose weight too quickly, you are very prone to gout attacks.

One problem with losing weight too quickly is it increases the percentage of uric acid in your body as your body tries to cope with it’s “new” environment.  That is why you need to lose weight slowly.  Well, I tried to lose slowly, but lost more than I had planned on.  This set about the new onset.  Fortunately, it was not a severe case and then I remembered I had stopped taking my cherry juice.

I took a couple ibuprofen, which I hate doing, just so it would help prevent a severe attack while the cherry juice tried to do it’s work.  I am glad to report I prevented a full blown attack and am back to losing weight without the pain.  The lesson in all this.  If you are taking cherries for gout, don’t get lazy.  You may soon regret it.
