Cleaning Your Pasta Machine

When it comes to cleaning your pasta machine there is one golden rule.  Never use water.  Most of us think of warm soapy water as the way to clean most of our kitchen appliances.  However, water is the one thing that can eventually ruin the manual or electric pasta maker.

If you have just purchased a pasta machine, it does need to be cleaned before first use.  The best way to clean the machine is to make a big ball of pasta dough.  Mix it up thoroughly and run it through the pasta machine several times.  The oil in the pasta dough with gather the dust and any residue from the factory.  The “dirt” will be pulled into the pasta dough.

The same process applies before each use or after each use.  Always run the dough through the rollers several times to gather all the residue.  And, of course, throw away the dough used for cleaning.  Store your pasta machine in its original box and keep it away from moisture.

With proper care, the pasta machine will last years without rusting.
