People often ask me about the difference between using nylon strings and metal strings. The main difference is in the sound they produce. Acoustic guitars are used with nylon strings to produce a clean and beautiful sound, while electric guitars are used with metal strings to produce a darker and more distorted sound. Another difference, although minor, is that nylon strings are smoother than metal, so when you are putting the strings on the guitar you are less likely to hurt yourself.
Another thing is that calluses will hurt, but in order to be considered a “good” guitar player, you will need to develop calluses on your fingers, which can only be done with practice! A little secret is that used guitars will have strings that will be quicker to give you calluses. An even better secret for you is that I take my fingers and run them up and down along the strings to force the calluses to form very fast! You may think me crazy, but it works! Then it does not hurt for as long a period of time as it would, had you not done this! Try it out and let me know what you think!
