Sometime in the 1920′s people started using bras and about this time they were also invented. The very first idea behind such thing was to give the women some support under their breasts if that would make them hang less while getting older. All the men had seen women on their backs and knew that if the boobs were a bit higher it would look a lot better. That gave the inventors some ideas since the yreally needed to come up with something that was strong enough to even hold the most largest pair in place. That is why the very first models are usually quite sturdy. In the medieval times I have seen even metallic bras so there is no suprise in the fact that a shelf bra is considered comfortable.
