How to Kill Fleas on Puppies

If your puppy has fleas you may be tempted to use some of the cheap flea control products found over the counter at most grocery stores and pet shops. However, you would be much better off saving your money because these products are cheap for a reason. They don’t work! If anything, they will only kill a portion of the fleas your puppy has, plus they contain ingredients that are dangerous to mammals (including humans and pets) as well as fleas. A trip to the veterinarian will end up costing you hundreds of dollars, just because you wanted to save a few dollars on flea medication! Capstar for dogs is very safe for puppies. It can be used on puppies as long as they are older than 4 weeks of age. Unlike flea collars, Capstar is very effective at killing adult fleas. After administration, you can expect 100% of adult fleas on your puppy to be killed within 4 hours. Keep in mind though, that Capstar only kills adult fleas and there are probably lots of eggs, larvae, and pupae living in your puppy’s environment. This will eventually hatch into adult fleas. You should be prepared to continue treatment with more doses of Capstar. Once your puppy reaches 6-8 weeks of age, you can use other long-acting flea medications as recommended by your veterinarian.
