Weeds are definitely pesky things to find in your garden. They can make gardening harder, but there are several things that you can do to learn about how to prevent weeds.
First you will want to remove all the weeds in the garden. You need to start out with a clean slate. You will want to pull carefully because leaving any of the root behind can cause the plant to come back later.
Next cover the ground with mulch or some other covering. This can include garden fabric if you are starting a new garden. You will then poke holes in it to plant your plants. You can use bark or wood mulch, rocks, pebbles, straw, or even torn up newspaper or the paper shreadings from your paper shredder to mulch around existing plants. Mulch shades the ground and makes it difficult for weeds to grow.
You should still keep an eye on it. Pull any weeds as soon as you have identified them as such. If a weed goes to seed in your garden there will be a whole lot more of them. On the other hand, if you pull it out you can stop the problem in its tracks.
The safest, chemical free way to prevent weeds is to use mulch. This comes in a wide range of forms and makes it harder for weeds to grow. You may get a few stragglers, but this will stop most of them from growing.
