Planning A Wedding – Early Stages

Planning a wedding is an important step in a person’s life, considering the costs of weddings in the 10s of thousands, you probably want that day to be perfect.

Making lists is a good way to start. You should have a time line list and should start about 6 months before the wedding. Some people even start one year before.

Here is a list of the items that should constitute the early steps into planning a wedding.

  • Decide on a date
  • Make an appointment with a minister, a clergyman or the person who will officiate at your wedding
  • Decide on how much you will spend and make a budget
  • Choose a venue and make arrangement for it, time and location for both the wedding ceremony and the reception
  • Choose a professional photographer or videographer (or both)
  • Register with a gift registry
  • Think about what flowers you will want
  • Begin decisions on a wedding gown whether you will buy it ready made of have it made for you (either way time for shopping and fittings will be required, start early)
  • Select who will be your bridesmaids, best man, and other special attending people at the ceremony
  • If planning a honeymoon start early to check on availability, your passports if needed, and possibly inoculations
  • Select a caterer if not provided by the reception venue
  • Make a decision about bridesmaids’ dresses

This list is only the beginning of your work each of the items above will have their own time line until completed. Each might start with discussion and decision, will them move to the action phase making appointments and agreements with the relevant parties.

Hiring a wedding consultant can be useful and you can locate one in your town by searching an online directory. A local directory will also list all the wedding suppliers you need, should you decide to do it yourself and not use a consultant.
