As far as we can tell silver have been used to jewelry and ornaments for at least 5000 years and is usually thought of as a slightly inferior relative of gold. Being a little less sought after have meant that silver jewelry is more affordable than gold and therefore is more popular in that it is more accessible to many of us.

The low cost of silver jewellery in comparison to gold is probably greater now than it has ever been which means more than ever it is being purchased by people who want something beautiful but would rather not spend a fortune. Its perhaps surprising considering its lower cost that silver is not found in nature in a usable form, it usually comes as an ore and the metal must be extracted before being of use in jewelry making.
