The different uses of garden buildings vary quite largely, however if broadly categorized, there would be two main types: utilitarian garden buildings and decorative ones. The latter can be original designs or can be miniature replicas of famous structures such as the Buddhist temples located mainly in China and Japan. Rose covered bowers often seen in the countryside are also a popular design for garden buildings.
Swings enclosed in their own building are also common garden buildings and add a playful touch to any backyard. Taylors garden buildings can also be found in the form of miniature Grecian temples; the English were the first to do this. An open shed housing a garden statue or bench is called a folly and is also known as a type of garden building.
