USB extension cords can be absolute life savers when you’re planning out an extensive project. Usually people are going to need such a thing for any type of peripheral they can imagine; anything from a printer, external hard drive, cameras, etc. are fair game. Naturally we all want to have all those gadgets and gizmos, but what happens when we have too many? Of course our workspace gets all cluttered and we lose productivity at the office. When that happens, buying a USB extension cord can be a real life saver. You can extend the reach of your peripherals across an entire room if you need to; there’s no reason for your printer to be right next to you is there? Simply move it to the other side of the room with a USB cord extension and away from where you’re working.
Before you make your extension cord purchase you need to do a little ground work first. You need to get out a tape measure and figure out exactly how much cable you’re going to need to buy. Don’t go unprepared when you go into the store; all you’ll end up doing is buying the wrong length, and nobody wants that. Ensure also that whatever you measure, you buy perhaps a couple feet more than that. Straight-line measurements are always a “best case” scenario; you may need more than that if you suddenly need to be able to turn a corner with the USB extension cord.
USB to RS232 cables are by far the most sought-after USB extension
cable. This is due to the fact that most peripherals that still use RS232 serial connectors are rather large and bulky. Dot-matrix printers are a prime example of this (and yes, people still use those for varying reasons!). These can be a little bit more expensive than normal USB extensions, but they can be found just as readily.
