Wireless Security Camera and it’s Weaknesses

A wireless security camera in many cases misleads one to believe that the camera is a standalone unit with no cables required. The truth is, the most common wireless security cameras still need a power cable so there is still that aspect to deal with. And since it is often difficult to find an outlet for outdoor surveillance, you run into the same power supply problem as with any camera.

The range of a wireless security camera depends largely on the hardware itself. The transmitting and receiving antennas determine the amount of power the wireless signal has and how much obstruction it can penetrate. Obstructions to the signal include distance, but more disruptively thick walls and metal are the biggest enemies of wireless signals. Ideally, for maximum range in potential installation locations relative to your transmitter you want a clear, unobstructed path between the wireless security camera and the transmitter.
